Outsiders Carpentry

Prolong The Life of Your Home

Greg Smith started out as a laborer and apprentice for two years with a general contractor who specialized in residential homes.  I was a journeyman for four years with Golden Acorn Builders. This entailed work building condos and town houses. During this time, I was the leader of fifty men.  During my employment I continued my education through a four-year union course for construction at Somerset Vo-tech.
In 1986 started Outsiders Carpentry.  For the first few years’ outsiders specialized in framing homes and condos as a subcontractor.  From 1988 to 2001 outsiders increased the variety of work adding renovations, additions and home improvements to the offerings.  I am a master builder and from 2002 to 2008 expanded outsiders through designing homes, drawing plans and obtaining permits from agencies such as the Department of Environmental Protection, Zoning, Highlands, Soil Conservation, Planning Board Approvals, Building Departments, Board of Health and Storm Water Management. In 2009-10 we built the 8000 sq. ft; sixteen bedroom “Christ Center Retreat” at Crossroads Camping and Retreat Center. We specialized in renovation of homes, including kitchens and bathrooms as well as floors and detailed painting.  We build new pole barns, garages, porches, additions and homes. In 2014-5 we renovated the 4000 sq. ft. Recreation Hall at Crossroads Camping and Retreat Center.

I have knowledge with all aspects of construction as well as preformed building, plumbing, and architectural plans. I have a New Jersey Home Builders License and a New Jersey Contractors License. I am EPA lead certified.

Greg Smith

My name is Greg Smith.  I am the owner of Outsiders Carpentry. I have a passion for building and creating. I take pride in my work and enjoy creating something from nothing. I have worked on many large projects but the one that is most notable is the Christ Center At Cross Roads Camp and Retreat Center. I enjoy working on challenging projects as well as learning new ways to use our resources.  Creating custom counters and shelf’s out of damaged down trees has become a new passion. I am looking forward to new opportunities to create and grow.

Linda Smith

Hello I am Linda Smith.  I have lived in Hunterdon County my entire life.

I met Greg when we were in High School.  I then attended Taylor Business Institute where I studied Accounting.  I worked at Case and Barlow Accountants located in Flemington, NJ for a couple of years.  During this time, I prepared all of the necessary documents for Greg to start “Outsiders Carpentry”.  In May 1986 Outsiders Carpentry was operating.  I manage and prepare all of the administrative tasks.

Greg and I have been in the contracting business for thirty years. Our sons Thor and Ian and our daughter in law Amanda joined our family business while attending high school part time and now are with us full time.  As they grew older their abilities grew stronger and expanded. All of us here at Outsiders Carpentry continue to grow together, bringing our different abilities together to make a whole team and love what we do, building not only our lives but our communities lives around us.

Thor Smith

I am Greg and Linda’s son.  I grew up on a job site.  I enjoy the challenge of fine trim work and detailed framing work.

Ian Smith

I am Greg and Linda’s Son.  I enjoy the demolition and working on the framing especially when I get to be in the rafters. When I step back and look at what has been created from nothing I feel a great sense of accomplishment.  Learning from my talented father and working closely with my family are the best part of Outsiders Carpentry.

Amanda Smith

I have been helping Outsiders Carpentry since I was 15.  I work in the office dealing with municipalities for permits and zoning as well as the miscellaneous detail needs.
